Mary Laverne Craig, Washington, D.C.

Former Burlington resident Mary Laverne Craig of Washington, D.C., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Va. She was 93.
Miss Craig worked for Kansas Electric Power in Lawrence until August 1940, when she moved to Washington, D.C., where she was a civilian employee of the Department of the Army for more than 30 years. She retired as a statistical analyst with the Army Audit Agency. During World War II, she was a volunteer for the USO.
The daughter of Walter S. and Maude F. Williams Craig, she was born on a farm northwest of Burlington in the Stone district. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1931 and then attended Lawrence Business School.
Miss Craig was a member of the Rebekahs in Lawrence.
She is survived by one sister, Mildred Craig Conrad of Burlington, and seven nieces and nephews, 17 greatnieces and nephews and 12 great-greatnieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Jones Funeral Home at Burlington. Burial will be in Bailey Cemetery, northwest of Burlington. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
