Gerald L. “Dutch” Talkington, Cottonwood Falls
The Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald L. “Dutch” Talkington of Cottonwood Falls will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at Council Grove. The Rev. Nicholas Voelker will be the celebrant. Mr. Talkington was cremated. Inurnment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery at Strong City. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday in the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home at Cottonwood Falls. The family will meet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions to the St. Anthony Catholic Church Building Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
Mr. Talkington died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was 80.
He was a rancher and farmer for most of his life. Later, he drove a truck for 10 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
The son of Leslie Omer and Edith J. Bechelmayr Talkington, he was born May 29, 1926, at Cottonwood Falls. He married Mary A. Rippert on Dec. 4, 1947, at Cottonwood Falls. She survives.
Mr. Talkington was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Strong City.
He is also survived by three sons, Roger L. Talkington and David W. Talkington, both of Cottonwood Falls, and John L. Talkington of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Peggy Barrett of Elmdale and Susan M. McKinnon of Livermore, Calif.; one brother, Walter E. Talkington of Cottonwood Falls; two sisters, Shirley J. Smith of Council Grove and Margaret N. Martin of Topeka; seven grandchilden; and four great-grandchildren. A son, Michael J. Talkington, died in 1991. A brother, Paul D. Talkington, also died earlier.
