Harold Henderson, Eureka

Harold Henderson of Eureka died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at his home. He was 74.
He was born July 19, 1932 in Severy, the son of Raymond and Ena Johnson Henderson. He graduated from Severy High School and Southwestern University in Winfield. In 1953 he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany until his discharge in 1955.
He attended Washburn University School of Law and received a law degree in 1961. He spent two years as a judge in Salina. In 1974, he moved to Eureka to work for Hibbard Abstract, which he then purchased, creating The Title Co. and The Closing Co., which he operated until his death.
From 1985 to 1997, he owned an athletic-shoe store in Lawrence.
Mr. Henderson was a member of the Eureka High School Booster Club, statstician for the school from 1974 to 1989, a volunteer for Sacred Heart Cathlic Church and a Mason. He was a member of Pi Gamma Mu fraternity, the National Social Science Honor Society and a mentor to many young men.
Survivors include one son, Richard Henderson of Emporia; one step-grandson; two brothers, Carl Henderson of Grand, Okla., and Keith Henderson of Emporia; and one sister, Wanda Evans of Fall River.
A brother, Bruce Henderson, died earlier.
Mr. Henderson has been cremated. A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Eureka High School. A private burial will be held later.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Eureka High School Booster Club, sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045.
