Joan Mildred Hammer-Drew, Wichita
Emporia native Joan Mildred Hammer-Drew, retired teacher, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at her home. She was 75.
Before she retired, Mrs. Drew was an elementary school teacher and librarian in schools around Emporia and Wichita.
The daughter of Leslie Virgil and Lucy Margaret Brickey Olm, she was born Sept. 30, 1931, in Emporia. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia with a degree in elementary education.
She married Berlin Ellsworth Hammer Jr., in 1951. He died in 1976. She married Earl Drew of Derby. He also died earlier.
Mrs. Drew is survived by one daughter, Michaela Hammer Stenger of Wichita; one son, Steven Berlin Hammer of Shaker Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Survivors in Emporia include a sister-in-law, Imegene Marsh.
A daughter, Cynthia Jo Hammer, died earlier, as did a brother, Leslie Virgil Olm.
The service to celebrate her life will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Downing and Lahey East Mortuary in Wichita. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.
