Charles Wesley Rodgers
Charles Wesley Rodgers of Emporia died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. He was 90.
Mr. Rodgers worked as a tool and die maker working for Vornado Fans and Edo-Aire, both in Wichita. After his retirement in 1979, he moved to Emporia and worked part-time for Bluestem Farm & Ranch Supply for a few years.
He was born Dec. 14, 1916 in rural Coffey County, the son of Russell Myrl and Lydia Ione Chapman Rodgers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Almena Spachek on Oct. 5, 1946 in Wichita. She died March 21, 1987. He married Jean Rees-Young on Oct. 17, 1987 in Emporia. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, James Charles Rodgers of San Diego; a daughter, Judith Schwanz of Burlington; a step-daughter, Patricia Beyer of Wichita; a sister, Glorianne Rogers of Mulvane; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Emporia and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lowry-Funston Post No. 1980.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements. The Rev. Mike Sorsen of the First Presbyterian Church will conduct the service and burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund in care of the funeral home.
