Mary C. Lenninger, Olpe
Mary C. Lenninger of Olpe died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. She was 96.
Mrs. Lenninger was a bookkeeper for Singer Sewing Company in Topeka and Emporia. She also worked at Newman’s Department Store. After she retired, she did volunteer work at St. Mary’s Hospital in Emporia and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe. She also helped organize the Olpe Plaza Housing and Senior Center in Olpe.
The daughter of Joseph and Rose Scheve Wiederhold, she was born Nov. 1, 1910, at Maydale where she graduated from Maydale Community Parochial School. She married Anthony “Tony” Lenninger on June 10, 1931, at Maydale. He died May 3, 1989.
Mrs. Lenninger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society and the Secular Franciscans. She also was a member of the Flying Needles, Happy Homemakers, Newman Hospital Auxiliary and the Olpe Bridge Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Jo Ann Williams of Eureka, Norma Gaston of Overland Park and Rosemary Brown of North Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; 18 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Charles Wiederhold, John Wiederhold and Joe Wiederhold; and four sisters, Adelaid Wiederhold, Theresa Wiederhold, Louise Gillaspie and Margaret Hensley, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Olpe. The Rev. Tim Haberkorn will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Olpe. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph School and sent in care of the Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, KS 66860.
