Dorothy May Burnett, Council Grove
Dorothy May Burnett, a longtime resident of Council Grove, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at the Council Grove Healthcare Center. She was 80.
Mrs. Burnett, a homemaker for 61 years, also was a waitress at the Rendezvous in Parsons, Hill Top and Peter Pan in Council Grove; worked as a medications aide at the Council Grove Nursing Home; then worked at Buckeye Bait, Hardee’s and Ellen’s Market and sold toys at home toy parties, all in Council Grove.
The daughter of Fred F. and Bessie May Phillips Buchman, she was born Aug. 11, 1926, at Council Grove. She married Alfred “Shorty” Burnett on March 9, 1946, at Council Grove. He survives.
Mrs. Burnett is also survived by two daughters, Nancy Rumold of Emporia and Linda “Skeeter” Kraus of Council Grove; five sons, Don Burnett of Manhattan, Bill Burnett of Alma, Dale Burnett of Wilsey, Joe Burnett of Burton and Kevin Burnett of Cape Fair, Mo.; one brother, Bob Buchman of Phoenix, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Council Grove United Methodist Church. The private family inurnment service will be held later. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Council Grove United Methodist Church.
