Bryan Leon Wise, Hamilton
The funeral for the Rev. B. Leon Wise, pastor of the Hamilton Baptist Church, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hamilton Baptist Church in Hamilton. The graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Oak Hill Cemetery at Elk City. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wilson Funeral Home in Madison.
The family requests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Hamilton Baptist Church or Gideons and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, KS 66860.
Mr. Wise died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka. He was 71.
He became a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Elsie, Mo., on May 22, 1949. He was a preacher in churches in the Flint Hills and the western part of Kansas and in Oklahoma, Missouri and Colorado. His last pastorate was at the Hamilton Baptist Church. He also preached in June 1969 at the First Baptist Church in Fredonia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
The son of Bryan W. and Iderah Porterfield Wise, he was born March 12, 1935, at Crane, Mo. He married Katherine Lombard on Oct. 4, 1958, at Miami, Okla. She survives.
Mr. Wise is also survived by one son, Bryan Wise of Springfield, Mo.; one daughter, Lucinda Fryer of Pittsburg; two brothers, William Wise of Tulsa, Okla., and Roy Wise of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Susan Bates of Wilson, Okla.; and four grandchildren.
