William P. Owens

Emporia native William P. “Bill” Owens, a longtime resident of Hutchinson, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was 98.
Mr. Owens owned Owens Tractor Implement in Emporia, A&W restaurants in McPherson and Hutchinson and the Red Rooster Restaurant in Hutchinson before he retired.
The son of Owen Thomas and Elizabeth Rees Owens, he was born Aug. 15, 1908, at Emporia. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1929.
He married Loretta Agnes Still on May 23, 1930, at Emporia. She died in September 1973. He married Adelaide Darby. She died in September 2005.
Mr. Owens was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Robert and Carl Owens, both of Hutchinson; one daughter, Caralee Mueller of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Helen Norton; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Ernest Owens and Edward Owens, died earlier.
The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery at Hutchinson. The family will meet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson.
