John W. Derbyshire, DeWitt, Mich.
Madison native John W. Derbyshire of DeWitt, Mich., died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at his daughter’s home in DeWitt after a lengthy illness. He was 86.
Mr. Derbyshire was an Army veteran of World War II. He enlisted in 1942 and served four years.
The son of Harry and Mamie Ione Clopton Derbyshire, he was born Feb. 12, 2005, at Madison. He married Carmen Dively on Nov. 19, 1941, at South Bend, Ind. She died earlier.
Mr. Derbyshire is survived by three daughters, Judy Colleen Derbyshire, Cindy Jone Derbyshire and Cheri Jean Derbyshire, all of Michigan; two sisters, Donna Ione Derbyshire Jeck of Emporia and Anice Darlene Derbyshire Walker of Yates Center; and four grandchildren. A brother, Winferd Dale Derbyshire, died Nov. 12, 2005.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Halbritter Funeral Home at Niles, Mich. Burial, with military honors, will be in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens at Niles. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
