Ernestine Marie Gunzelman, Topeka

Dunlap native Ernestine Marie “Ernie” Gunzelman of Topeka died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007.
Mrs. Gunzelman was an elementary school teacher for 38 years.
The daughter of Bryan E. and Mae Wells Shawgo, she was born April 3, 1922, at Dunlap. She graduated from Emporia High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Washburn University. She was an active member of the Washburn University Alumni Association.
She married Joe Gunzelman in October 1942. He died in 2002.
Mrs. Gunzelman is survived by a daughter, Rita Gunzelman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Jean Small of Prairie Village; and a brother, Gail “Bud” Shawgo of Manhattan.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel at Topeka. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Topeka. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
