Doris M. Nickel, Marquette
Allen native Doris M. Nickel of Marquette died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Via Christi in Wichita. She was 85.
Mrs. Nickel was a homemaker and also a former employee at Riverview Estates in Marquette. She moved from Emporia to McPherson in 1956 and then to Marquette in 1981.
The daughter of Glenn M. and Leota Mae Simmons Davis, she was born April 4, 1921, at Allen. She married William G. “Bill” Nickel on March 20, 1939, at Cottonwood Falls. He died Feb. 9, 1986.
Mrs. Nickel attended the Evangelical covenant Church at Marquette. She was a member of the Starlite Literary Club.
She is survived by a son, William M. “Bill” Nickel of Marquette; a daughter, Donna Nickel of Marquette; a sister, Glenna Meek of Topeka; three grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A son, Richard G. Nickel, died in 1960. An infant brother, Clifford Davis; a brother, Glenn G. Davis; and a sister, Norma Jean Thomas, also died earlier.
The graveside service was held Feb. 6 in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, after which a memorial service was held at the First United Methodist Church, both in Emporia.
