Galen L. Curry, Iola
Galen L. “Jack” Curry of Iola died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola. He was 85.
He married Donna Mays on June 27, 1981, at Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Curry purchased the Piqua State Bank in 1971 and was still associated with the family business. Earlier, he worked for Farmland Industries in Kansas City and later, for Park College. He served in the U.S. Army as a reconnaissance pilot during World War II. After the war, he served three years in the army of occupation in France and Germany. He then moved to Iola in 1954 as an army advisor for the Kansas National Guard. After retiring from the Army, he continued to live in Iola.
Mr. Curry is also survived by two sons; one daughter; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. His first wife, Elizabeth Ann Kreugar Curry, died Nov. 15, 1977.
The funeral was held Monday at the First Christian Church in Iola. Burial was in Highland Cemetery at Iola.
