Fern Elizabeth Garrison

Fern Elizabeth Garrison, a longtime resident of Emporia died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Mrs. Garrison and her husband, Calvin Garrison, owned and operated the Garrison Music Store for many years. Earlier, Mrs. Garrison taught at the Lewis, Kan., high school for three years.
The daughter of William F. and Daisy Thompson Marx, she was born in northern Lyon County. The family moved to Emporia where she attended Emporia schools and graduated from the College of Emporia.
She married Calvin Cellar Garrison on Aug. 12, 1926. He died earlier.
Mrs. Garrison was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Semper Fidelis Sunday school class and the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the church. She also was a member of Chapter GT of the P.E.O Sisterhood, the Etude Study Club and a patroness of Sigma Alpha Iota, honorary music fraternity of Emporia State University. She was a former member of the board of directors of the Emporia Arts Council, the Emporia Country Club, several bridge clubs and Emporia Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by one son, Clair Garrison of Emporia; one daughter, Shirley Moses of Topeka; one brother, Robert E. Marx of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Willa Mae Furlong and Dorothy Hynson, both of Topeka; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Wilma Simpson and Evelyn Mitchell, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 19 in the C.D. Long Memorial Chapel in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The coffin will be closed.
