The son of Orval Jake and Lillie Mae Bender Harris, he was born April 30, 1917, at Cottonwood Falls. He attended schools in Cottonwood Falls and Pottawatomie.
He married Dora Emelia Proehl on Aug. 4, 1946, at Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Harris was a member of the Church of Christ in McPherson. He was a member of the Kansas City Carpenters Union, a 4-H volunteer, and sponsored a Canton softball team.
He also is survived by three daughters, Sharon K. Rahman of Wichita, D. JoAnn Moege of McPherson and Charlene Robuck of Topeka; one son, O. Ernest Harris of Derby; one brother, Donald l. Harris of Spanaway, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Thelma DeJarnett and Margaret DeJarnett, died earlier.
