Thomas Irvin Newcome, Council Grove
COUNCIL GROVE
Thomas Irvin Newcomb of Council Grove died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Morris County Hospital in Council Grove. He was 92.
A longtime farmer, he also played piano and was an old-time fiddler.
The son of Gilbert I. and Ellen Gertrude Ash Newcomb, he was born March 10, 1915, at Alta Vista. He married Marie Mae Holscher on Dec. 25, 1931, at Alta Vista. She survives.
Mr. Newcomb was a member of the Emmanual United Methodist Church near Alta Vista.
He also is survived by one daughter, Luella N. Auchard of Perry, Ga.; three stepsisters, Katherine Slusher of Council Grove, Bernice Fowler of Shawnee Mission and Clara Ruth Bavenderof Corpus Christi, Texas; three stepbrothers, Floyd Holscher of Salina, Clyde Holscher of Topeka and Leo Holscher of Everett, Wash.; two stepgrandsons and four stepgreat-grandchildren. A son, James T. Newcomb, died in 1998. His stepmother, Dollie Holscher Newcomb, also died earlier.
The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Four Mile Cemetery, south of Council Grove. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Council Grove Chapel. Friends also may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
