George Walter Friend, Eudora
Funeral services for former Emporian George Walter Friend, 50, of Eudora will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in the Eudora chapel. Visitation will be from 9 a.m., Wednesday until service time.
Mr. Friend died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, near Poncha Springs, Colo. Burial will be at the Hesper Cemetery in Hesper.
He was born May 30, 1957 in Denver, the son of Darryl D. and Marcia M. Harris Friend. He was a 1975 graduate of Wichita West High School.
He worked for Charlie’s TV in Emporia before moving to Eudora in 1990. He retired in May from the Lawrence Paper Company, where he worked as a machine operator.
He was married to Retha Thompson on Nov. 4, 1990, in Wichita. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include one daughter, Barbara Friend of Eudora; one son, John Friend of Eudora; three brothers, Doug Friend of Seminole, Fla., Greg Friend of Emporia and Brian Friend of Burden; two sisters, Marla Patchel of Morganton, N.C., and Paulie Blunnie of Raytown, Mo., and two grandchildren.
