Martha Jean Satzler, Burlingame
Martha “Jean” Satzler of Burlingame died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. She was 77.
Mrs. Satzler, a registered nurse, worked at Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Grand Island, Neb., for 20 years.
The daughter of James Watson and Frances Esther Dew Montgomery, she was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Topeka. She grew up in Burlingame and graduated from Hays High School in 1948 and from Bethany School of Nursing in Kansas City in 1952.
She married Bernell Shum on Jan. 5, 1952, in Wadsworth. They were divorced. She married Don Satzler on June 6, 1976, in Burlingame. He survives.
Mrs. Satzler was a member of the Burlingame Federated Church, where she was church secretary for more than 15 years. She served many years on the election board and was a former member of USD 454 school board at Burlingame.
She is also survived by three sons, James Shum of El Dorado, Lynn Satzler of Burlingame and Larry Satzler of Manhattan; three daughters, Paula Hedberg of Miller, Karen Shum of Burlingame and Reggie Fosberg of Burlingame; one brother, Jim Montgomery of Andover; two sisters, Georgia Widau of Burlingame and Annabelle Curry of Salisbury, Md.;13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One son, a brother, Rolla Montgomery, and a sister, Julia Satzler, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Burlingame Federated Church. Burial will be at Burlingame Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Carey Funeral Home in Burlingame.
