Otis H. Jones, Overland Park

Former New Strawn resident Otis H. Jones of Overland Park died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, in Overland Park. He was 86.
Mr. Jones and his wife, Marie, owned and operated Strawn Lumber in New Strawn.
The son of William T. and Leila Standiferd Jones, he was born Feb. 11, 1921, at Arvonia. He grew up in the Arvonia and Lebo areas and graduated from Lebo High School.
He married Marie Jones on Dec. 23, 1943, in Lebo. She survives and now lives in Overland Park.
Mr. Jones was a member of the United Methodist Church in Burlington where he also was a trustee. He served on the Burlington U.S.D. 244 board of education, was mayor and city councilman for the City of New Strawn, served on the New Strawn library board and was an active participant in Coffey County soil conservation projects.
He also is survived by one son, David Kenton Jones of Pittsburg; one daughter, Anita Ross of Overland Park; one brother, William Leslie Jones of Lebo; and one sister, Ruth Vering Durow of Topeka; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A son, Steven Douglas Jones, died May 1, 2003. Mr. Jones’ twin sister, Opal Jones, and another sister, Wilma Barnett, also died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Burlington. Burial will be in Arvonia Cemetery, north of Lebo. The family will meet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
