Mary Anne Augustine Whitaker, Quinter

Former Emporian Mary Ann Younger Whitaker of Quinter died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at the Gove County Medical Center in Quinter. She was 85.
Mrs. Whitaker and her husband, Charles G. Whitaker, lived in Emporia for about 22 years before they moved to Quinter in 2002. In Emporia, she worked as a cook at aNewman hospital and IBP and, after she retired, at the Emporia Senior Center.
The daughter of Joseph and Cunnigunda Korbe Augustine, she was born April 2, 1922, in Ellis County. She married Michael Andrew Younger on May 30, 1939. He died Sept. 5, 1967. She married Charles G. Whitaker on Oct. 30, 1971, in Collyer. He died July 13, 2004.
Mrs. Younger Whitaker was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park.
She is survived by one son, Paul Younger of Firestone, Colo.; three daughters, Patricia Younger Falley and Mary Younger Zerr, both of Quinter and Delores Younger Worthington of Manhattan; four brothers, Marvin Augustine, Robert Augustine and LaVern Augustine, all of Hays and Francis Augustine of Salina; two sisters, Josephine Urban of Ellis and Norma Weigel of Hays; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
A son, Gerald Younger, two brothers, Alfred Augustine and Ralph Augustine, and a sister, Lucille Younger, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park. Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Park.
