Robert William Young, Paola

Robert William Young of rural Paola died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park. He was 86. Survivors in this area include a son, David Young of Madison.
Mr. Young, whose nickname was “Work Man,” was a dairy farmer. In the early 1940s, he worked for a short time on the railroad and also had been a carpenter at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant.
He also was a ham radio operator. He and his wife, Wilma, received the soil conservation award in the late 1960s. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from October 1943 until his honorable discharge in March 1946.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial with military honors will be in Fontana Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
