Lila V. Tompkins, Cottonwood Falls

Lila V. Tompkins, a Chase County native, died Friday, April 27, 2007, at the home of her nephew, Brad Martin of Dodge City, with whom she had been living. She was 87.
The daughter of George and Mary Jane Garner Martin, she was born March 18, 1920, in Saffordville in Toledo Township. She married Floyd “Bud” Tompkins on Oct. 15, 1948, in Fort Scott. He died Feb. 3, 1996.
Mrs. Tompkins, a homemaker, was a member of the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort Dodge. She was active at the Cottonwood Falls senior center.
Her survivors, in addition to Brad Martin, include niece Patsy Tompkins of Wichita and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Five brothers and seven sisters, including Cora Pringle of Emporia, died earlier.
Mrs. Tompkins has been cremated. Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls, will announce services for a later date.
