Helen Nelson, Stong City

The service to celebrate the life of Helen “Jay” Nelson of Strong City will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Jim Bartsch of the Flint Hills Community Church will conduct the service. Burial will be at Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. Saturday until service time.
Mrs. Nelson died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. She was 79.
She was an equipment operator and flag person for Rand Construction and Blacktop Construction.
The daughter of Joseph and Etta Orr Edwards, she was born Dec. 15, 1927, in Strong City. She married Kenneth “Bud” Nelson on June 15, 1946, at Cottonwood Falls. He died Oct. 22, 1995.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Strong City United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Darla Ebert of Rose Hill; a brother, Leo “Bud” Edwards of Fairfield, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Four sisters, Dorothy Turse, Grace Clark, Edith “Tine” Campbell and Dora “Babe” Melzer, died earlier, as did a brother, John Edwards.
