Jack Statton Hughes, Lyons
Emporia native Jack Statton Hughes of Lyons died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was 78.
Mr. Hughes, who moved to Lyons in 1962, was a machinist and toolmaker for Lyons Manufacturing for 32 years. He retired in 1991. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
The son of Horace and Mabelle Statton Hughes, he was born April 25, 1928, at Emporia. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1946 and attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
He married Norma Pearson on June 20, 1958, at Wichita. She survives.
Mr. Hughes was a life member of American Legion Post 129 and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3184 and the Liar’s Fishing Club, all in Lyons; and member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 982 and SFP Square Dance Club, both in Hutchinson.
He is survived by two sons, Jack P. Hughes of Derby and Justin W. Hughes of Hutchinson.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson. Mr. Hughes was cremated. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the City of Lyons Christmas Bell and Star and sent in care of the funeral home, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
