Donald Charles Blackman
Donald Charles Blackman of Reading died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Newman Regional Health. He was 60.
Mr. Blackman was assistant manager for Milgram’s Grocery Chain in Kansas City for 26 years and later was assistant manager at Price Chopper in Paola for six years. He also had worked for Daisy Manufacturing in Gardner and KanBuild in Osage City. He served in the U.S. Army Airborne during the mid-1960s.
The son of Charles O. and Mary Lilian Stroth Blackman, he was born Sept. 25, 1946, at Kansas City, Mo. He graduated from Bishop Miege High School in 1964.
He was married 16 years to Mary Setter. They were divorced.
Mr. Blackman is survived by two sons, Charles Blackman of Stuttgart, Germany, and Donald Blackman of Osawatomie; two stepsons, Jason Wade Putnam of Dodge City and Steven Michael Putnam of Calais, Maine; two sisters, Mary Strong of Branson, Mo., and Cheryl Roberts of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Michael Blackman of Parker, Larry Blackman of Oak Grove, Mo., and Richard Blackman of Bates City, Mo.; two grandsons; and his companion of 17 years, Carolyn Putnam. His parents died earlier.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Reading United Methodist Church. Burial, with services conducted by a Fort Riley honor guard, will be in Reading Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the church one hour before the service.
