Harold Slusher, Council Grove

Harold Slusher, longtime Council Grove resident and rancher, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at the Council Grove Healthcare Center. He was 93.
Mr. Slusher had worked at Beech Aircraft in Delavan, then transferred to Wichita, where he retired. He was a rancher for most of his life, taking care of cattle in the Flint Hills, learning from his father at an early age. He lived in the Council Grove area except for the few years in Wichita.
The son of Ennis and Nora Bruce Slusher, he was born Nov. 20, 1913, in Saffordville. He lived at Dunlap and Kelso, where he graduated from Kelso grade school. He attended Council Grove High School.
He married Katherine Holscher on April 4, 1936, in Junction City. She survives.
Mr. Slusher was a llife member of 4-H and was a 4-H leader. He also was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, Over 40 Dance Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars and served on the Big John school board.
He is also survived by two daughters, Deana Slusher Smith of Madison and Donna Slusher Roush of Garden City; one son, Steven H. Slusher of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Margaret Mary Slusher, died in infancy.
The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Cemetery in Council Grove. The family will meet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Council Grove Chapel.
Memorial contributions to the St. Rose Catholic Church or the Morris County 4-H Foundation may be sent in care of the funeral home, 137 N. Union St., Council Grove, KS 66846.
