Marian Rutherford

Marian Rutherford, 408 S. Commercial St., died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Flint Hills Care Center. She was 78.
Mrs. Rutherford was a waitress at the Sunflower Cafe in Madison and later, at Blaylock’s in Emporia.
The daughter of Kenneth W. and Mary Lorenia Brothers Ray, she was born Feb. 9, 1929, in rural Hamilton. She grew up near Madison, attended country schools and graduated from high school.
She married Don Rutherford in 1969 in Emporia. They lived northeast of Emporia for more than 30 years and then were divorced. She moved into Emporia in 2004.
Mrs. Rutherford was a member of the West Side Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Emporia Friends of the Zoo.
She is survived by one brother, John Richard Ray of Lebanon, Mo.; and one sister, Sheila Ahlgrim of Norman, Okla. Survivors in Emporia include her brother-in-law, Richard Rhoads.
One sister, Anna LaVerna Rhoads, and one brother, Norman Ray, died earlier.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Janesville Cemetery, west of Hamilton. The Rev. Kenneth Armstrong will conduct the service.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo and sent in care of the Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, KS 66801.
