Bronwyn “Bron” Hutchinson

Former Emporia and Concordia resident Bronwyn “Bron” Hutchinson of Holton died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was 59.
When Mrs. Hutchinson and her husband lived in Concordia, she was office manager for the Concordia Blade-Empire and then joined the faculty at Cloud County Community College as an English professor. They moved from Concordia to Holton in 1997, where she also worked for the Jackson County farm agency. Earlier, she was head of the library department for the Abilene News Reporter in Abilene, Texas, and was office manager and, later, assistant to the publisher at the Manhattan Mercury in Manhattan, Kan. She began her teaching career at Lowther Junior High School in Emporia.
The daughter of Edward and Ruth Brandt Eccles, she was born Oct. 15, 1946, at Needles, Calif. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1964, the College of Emporia with a bachelor’s degree in English and from Kansas State University with a master’s degree in education.
She married Don A. Hutchinson on Aug. 27, 1967, at Emporia. He survives.
Mrs. Hutchinson attended Concordia Lutheran Church. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma teaching sorority, the National Education Association and a former member of the Brown Grand board of directors.
She is also survived by two sons, Duke Hutchinson of Lenexa and Brandt Hutchinson of Concordia; her mother, Ruth Eccles-Sumner of Emporia; one brother, Richard Eccles of Clarksville, Tenn.; and one sister, Luella Brazeal of Shawnee Mission. Her father died earlier.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lutheran Church at Concordia. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Concordia. Mrs. Hutchinson was cremated. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia.
