Alvin Jennings Whitaker

Alvin Jennings Whitaker of rural Emporia died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at his home. He was 90.
Mr. Whitaker was a farmer and for many years was sexton of the Rosean Cemetery north of Emporia.
The son of Clarence and Lizzie Schallehn Whitaker, he was born Jan. 16, 1916, at Emporia. He married Alice Fehr on Aug. 2, 1936, at Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Whitaker was a member of the Kansas Farm Bureau and the Kansas Livestock Association.
He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Campbell of Great Bend. Another sister, Blanche Key, died June 6, 2004.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Jayne Duncan of the First United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Rosean Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, to be used for a new flag to be erected at the Rosean Cemetery, may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
