Thelma Mary Key
Thelma Mary Key, formerly of Route 2, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at the Rolling Hills Care Center in Topeka, where she recently moved. She was 81.
Mrs. Key helped her husband, Bernard, farm for 25 years and later, was the administrator at the Emporia Rest Home. She then worked for Century 21 Real Estate and at her custom drapery business, Re-nuz-it.
The daughter of Venzie B. and Rose E. Haefele Skoch, she was born Dec. 8, 1924, at Sabetha. She married Bernard Key on June 11, 1947, at Seneca. He died June 22, 1989, at Emporia.
Mrs. Key was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Penny Kay Key of Emporia; one son, Wayne Richard Key of Austin, Texas; two brothers, Sylvester Skoch of Seneca and Robert Skoch of Axtell; one sister, Mildred Mueting of Baileyville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Raymond Skoch and Paul Skoch; and one sister, Anna Marie Carroll, died earlier.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Darren Henson will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, after which the family will meet friends.
