Marvin Dean Feltner, Lyndon
Marvin Dean Feltner of Lyndon died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, in Osage City after an 18-month battle with renal cell carcinoma. He was 70.
Mr. Feltner farmed for many years and also worked for Damron Funeral and Furniture in Burlington. In April 1966, he moved to Lyndon and bought Shaffer Mortuary, starting an ambulance service in 1967. He started Marv’s Variety store in 1968 and added Marv’s Furniture and Carpet in 1973. He and his wife sold the business to their sons, Michael Feltner and Martin Feltner, in 1997, Mr. Feltner then began a cow-calf business and farmed until his health failed in April 2005.
The son of Lawrence and Cecilia Bowman Feltner, he was born Dec. 19, 1935, in Burlington. He grew up on a farm west of Burlington and attended District 69 School, where his mother and father were teachers. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1954.
He married Mary Ann Graham on Dec. 22, 1957, in Burlington. She survives.
Mr. Feltner worked hard promoting Lyndon. He was a member of the chamber of commerce, served two terms on the city council and was a founding member and first president of Lyndon Pride. He was a member and service officer of American Legion Post 125 and a member of the council of East Central Kansas Area on Aging. He also was on the board of directors of the Citizens State Bank of Gridley. He was cub master of Scouts and a youth baseball coach when his sons were young.
He is also survived by three sons, Michael Feltner, Mark Feltner and Martin Feltner, all of Lyndon; two daughters, Michelle Clark of Lyndon and Marcia Dorr of Coffeyville; one brother, Raymond Feltner of Lenexa; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
A grandson, Jeremiah Lee Tevis, died on Oct. 2, 2004.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Community Church, southeast of Lyndon. Burial will be at Lyndon Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Lyndon United Methodist Church or the Lyndon Carnegie Library and sent in care of the Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
