Nancy Margaret Hart Garard, New Strawn

1939 - 2006

NEW STRAWN
Nancy Margaret Garard of New Strawn died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. She was 93. She lived at the Life Care Center in Burlington for the last three months.
The daughter of Reuben W. and Ora J. Cooper Hart, she was born Sept. 27, 1913, near Custer City, Okla. She attended grade school in a one room school and graduated from high school in Lewiston, Neb., in 1933.
She married Harry Bertram Garard on Aug. 1, 1939, in Burlington. He died in 1965.
Mrs. Garard was baptized in Nash, Okla., at the age of 9 and was a member of the Christian Church of Burlington, where she also was a member of the church choir and a Sunday school teacher. She was a 4-H Club leader and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a home demonstration unit and the Sweet Adeline Chorus.
She is survived by a son, Wesley Garard of Lebo; a daughter, Jean Wilson of Manhattan; a sister, Olive Simmons of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Alfred Hart of New Paltz, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Two brothers, Reuben Hart and Omer Hart; and three sisters, Geneva Boosinger, Alice Leister and Rose White, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Burial will be at Alpine Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
