Betty Joan Williams
The memorial service for Betty Joan Williams of Emporia will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Chester Moore of the Church of the New Covenant will conduct the service. Mrs. Williams was cremated. The family will meet friends after the service.
Memorials have been established with the Boone County Council on Aging, 800 N. Providence, Columbia, MO 65202 or Hand in Hand Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
Mrs. Williams died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at her home in Emporia. She was 73.
She worked as a medical records clerk for several medical offices before she retired 11 years ago. She was formerly of Columbia, Mo., and Garnett. She was a longtime fan of the Missouri Tigers.
The daughter of Charles and Grace Ash Robertson, she was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Columbia, Mo. She graduated from Columbia College in Columbia, Mo.
She married Charles Williams on Aug. 27, 1955, in Columbia. He died July 5, 1994.
Mrs. Williams is survived by three sons, Mike Williams of Emporia, Brett Williams of Fort Scott and Brian Williams of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two daughters, Terri Brooks of Emporia and Cindy Slaughter of Bloomington, Ill.; one brother, Ron Robertson of Columbia, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A sister, Mary Alice Simon-Meredith, died earlier.
