Naomi Ruth Croy
Naomi Ruth Croy of Cottonwood Falls died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls. She was 101.
Mrs. Croy and her husband, Leonard Croy, owned and operated the Croy Furniture Store and the Croy Funeral Home for 60 years, where she also was the bookkeeper. She was an accomplished painter, with one of her paintings in the top eight in the district in 1970 in the Rural-Urban Art program show at Chapman, sponsored by Kansas State University.
The daughter of Seth Parker and Nellie Lorene Carter King, she was born June 5, 1905, at Norcatur. She attended Kansas State University for three and one-half years.
She married Leonard Elder “L.E.” Croy on Dec. 24, 1924, at Norton. He died March 2, 1996.
Mrs. Croy was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Cottonwood Falls and various church groups. She was a member of Falls Chapter 25 of the Order of the Eastern Star and P.E.O. Chapter BZ, of which she was chaplain, and other civic and social organizations.
She is survived by two sons, David E. Croy of Cottonwood Falls and Don E. Croy of Morrison, Colo.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A daughter, Carol Ann LaPlatney, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 2p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church at Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Melody Kimbrel will conduct the service. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Croy Funeral Home.
