Dead man identified

The Lyon County Sheriff’s department has released the name of a young man found dead under the Prairie Street overpass shortly after midnight Tuesday.

The body of Christopher A. Brackner, 18, was found lying between railroad tracks by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway personnel, who reported the incident to Emporia police at 12:13 a.m. Police, in turn, called the sheriff’s department, which has jurisdiction over an area on the west side of the bridge.

Brackner’s death apparently was a suicide, according to information from the sheriff’s office. Autopsy results are pending and the investigation is continuing.
