EHS Thespians recognized in ceremony

Emporia High School’s Thespian Honors Night was held April 17. The EHS Theater Director is Grant Geis. Those receiving awards are below.

Best in Class: Freshman Alyssa Glover, Sophomore Robby Crone, Junior Dallas Shafer and Senior Olivia Coulson.

Thespian of the Year: Drew Surmeier.

Caite Schoeck was named crew member of the year. Forty-seven students contributed after school to the crew, not including stagecraft students.

Twelve students served as crew heads, demonstrating their leadership and craftsmanship and 46 students were featured as actors during the season.

The following students were inducted into the International Thespian Society (ITS). ITS is the honor group for theatre students, and require a minimum of 100 hours of service:

Emily Stevenson, Skyler Banfield, Maranda Rust, Alyssa Glover, Morgan Kauffman, Corrine Payton, Vanessa Garcia, Emma Peterson, Caite Schoeck, Blake Spargue, Elliott Sherwood, Alec Garcia and Mercedes Bouthapanya.

The following students earned over 100 thespian points, roughly 10 hours per point:

Olivia Coulson, 103; Drew Surmeier, 118; Tagan Trahoon, 102; Dallas Shafer, 104.

Senior Thespians: Jake Riggs, Olivia Coulson, Zaina Delgado, Emily Stevenson, Tagan Trahoon, Drew Surmeier, Sadie Cope, Elliott Sherwood, Maranda Rust, Skyler Banfield, Joan Davy and Emma Peterson.

The following students lettered in Theatre: Emma Peterson, Emily Stevenson, Ray Winans, Cory Thepachan, Alec Garcia, Oasis Hernandez, Skyler Banfield, Elliott Sherwood, Lauren Harrell, Dallas Shafer and Sydney Main.

Also, Tagan Trahoon, Tarah Pearson, Drew Surmeier, Olivia Coulson, Morgan Kauffman, Vanessa Garcia, Samantha Richey, Margarita Nunez, Alyssa Glover, Caite Schoeck, Cassie Stair, Blake Sprague, Maranda Rust, Robby Crone, Natalie Lingenfelter, Mercedes Bouthapanya, Corrine Payton, Zaina Delgado, Sadie Cope and Ashley Sherwood.
