Fresh off their Flint Hills Shootout title, the Northern Heights girls improved to 13-2 with a 37-31 win over Royal Valley at home Friday.

The Wildcats trailed 17-16 at the half and were behind 28-23 after three quarters. But the fourth quarter belonged to Northern Heights. They outscored Royal Valley 14 to 3.

“It was a good win because we had to fight through some adversity and the girls stepped up and found a way to get it done,” said Northern Heights coach Tim Riemann. “We made some big free throws late and had some good stops on the defensive end to finish the game.”

The Wildcats missed 28 shots from the field out of 40 attempts.

“We did not shoot the ball or move the ball very well, but we found a way to win at the end of the game,” Riemann said.

Lakin Preisner had nine points, seven rebounds and six assists. Kimberly Smith recorded eight points and seven rebounds.
