ESU women win UCM Invite

The Emporia State women’s track team won the Central Missouri Invitational on Friday.

Katie Mona broke a 21 year old building record and four year old ESU record by winning the women’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:47.15.

Sonya Schement set a school record of 11-05 3/4 to win the pole vault and earn a provisional qualifying mark.

Marqueita Marisette finished first in the 200-meter dash. The distance medley relay team of Mona, Courtney Maddux, Nikki Wetstein and Kristen Sponsel also took first. Wetstein also won the triple jump.

Briar Ploude won the high jump by clearing 7-01 3/4. Andrew Etheridge had another provisional qualifier with a time of 8.13 to win the 60-meter hurdles. Gannon Mack also had a provisional running a 8.15 to place third in the 60-meter hurdles.

Shjuan Richardson also earned a provisional qualifier. He ran a 6.94 to win the 60-meter dash.

Ryan Dickson won the 200-meter run and Dwayne Wall won the triple jump with a leap of 45-07 3/4.

The mile relay team of Mack, Frankie Cortez, Cody Miller and Kyle Downing and the distance medley team of Jacob Bull, Alex Skinner, Jordan Smith, and Collin Erbert also won championships for the Hornets.

The ESU men placed second as a team.
