Cliff’s Super Service expands

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

A new Cliff’s Super Service location plans to open today at the former Koch 66 Service Station at 1102 Commercial St.

“We are not duplicating all of our services,” said Jesse Shaver IV, the owner of Cliff’s. “We are going to offer full-service gasoline.”

The employees are going to wash the vehicle’s interior and exterior windows, check the oil, check the tires and top off all fluids. An Automotive Service Excellence-certified technician does the oil changes.

“I do believe in working on customer’s cars like they are my own,” Shaver said. “I favor quality. ... What I found through my experience of working on cars, which is 48 years, is you really have better luck doing a quality job using quality parts most of the time — quality work all the time.”

If customers need major maintenance or repair on their car, they can either go to Cliff’s other location at 115 E. Fifth Ave., or he will bring the vehicle down to the location, he said.

Cliff’s has been in business for 74 years, Shaver said. The original location was at West 12th Avenue and Merchant Street. After 40 years at that location, the business moved to the East Fifth Avenue location.

“My name is Jesse Clifford Shaver IV,” Shaver said. “Grandpa, who opened Cliff’s, is Jesse Clifford Shaver II. Therefore, comes the name Cliff’s Super Service. He went by his middle name. Dad went by his middle name.

”But I came along, and they decided to call me Jesse because they didn’t want to have three Cliffs around.”

He said his son, Bryce Shaver, is going to be the manager of the new location.

Shaver said comparing service stations is difficult to do.

“It depends on what quality of technician you have, the honesty of the shop and what type of parts they are putting on,” he said.

The station hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. The phone number is 343-1938.

I've been a customer of Jesse for the past several years and am very pleased to recommend him wholeheartedly!

So glad to see full service gas back. The owners of that building and the new building next door treated the former person in the service station very badly.

You know full service may cost a little more per gallon.

But I am getting soooooooooooooo tired of pulling into the station at 12th and merchant and waiting for the idiot at the pump to fill their car, go in the store and cook a burritto, fill their monster cup with diet coke, scratch a few lotto tickets, turning the winners in and scratching some more all while their car is left at the pump. And others are left waiting to gas up.

So I think I'm going to ditch the dillons card and gas up at Cliff's. I think the local owner and better, faster service will be worth it.

Also another congrats! Steve you would think the idiots would pull to the front of the store before taking a half hour to do their routine? But that would take some thinking!

I buy my gas at the same location that has been referred to. I pump my gas, show my Dillons card, pay and off I go. I don't linger. But, on more then one occassion, I have been yelled at for not moving my vehicle after pumping my gas and before paying.
I have always done this. The establishments are quick to call the Police for drive-offs, and that is the reasoning for me to pump, pay and vamoose.
Maybe Cliff's will have an increase in patronize. I do most of the maintenance on my own vehicle, but have heard several people comment on their satisfaction with Cliff's service. Congratulations, Jesse, and good luck.
It was too bad how the previous management was treated by the "landlord".

Good luck with the new landlord and with your endeavor Jesse. You are not new to the business world, you should quickly recognize why others have left before you.
