Giving it away

The Lyon County Commissioners on Thursday, Jan. 5, made a very serious mistake on a two-to-one vote to pass the unlimited taxing authority for the Extension Service.
The problem with what was done has many far reaching effects. When you have three counties with four representatives, the following problems can become very real.
Large raises can be voted on and passed by the other two counties with friends on the board, and nothing can be done.
New offices or additions could be voted in by the other two counties and we would be stuck paying for their improvements.
The meetings would take place out of county and therefore wouldn’t be attended until the damage has been done.
We will now have around ten people working; someone is going to want to be paid a lot more to be in charge.
I think you can see where this is going by just a few of the above predictions. We all know this all starts with good intentions by good people, however, let a few things change and it is out of control very quickly.
I asked a question of what new programs and services would be added and the question was never answered. I would hope the existing commissioners would change their minds and do the right thing. If not then the petitions need to run their course, and let the chips fall where they may.
Do you know what the Extension Service does for the County? I hope they can survive the heat that is coming.

All valid concerns Ken.
I think the petitions will have to work.

I'm thinking along the lines as Ken's last sentance above. It seems the actions of the commission and extension office have brought out a lot of negativity.
If you look at the new Gazette poll question results, (yes I know it's not scientific), it seems that some not only want to overturn the commission decision, theyy want to defund the extension office all together.
I will sign and carry petitions, starting this comig weekend, I hope. But I think the petition question right now is, will we overturn the county commisson decision, or not?

I think it would be helpful to the voters to have the resolution and agreement that was passed downloaded to the counties web site. Maybe the gazette could do a little larger print on the legal notices and run a synopsis of the agreement? My eyes are getting old.
