On Sunday we rang in a new year. While it was just another day, it sparks an opportunity for a fresh start, to identify new goals and explore new opportunities. We don’t need to carry the burdens of 2011 into the New Year.
2012 starts with the promise of being a positive year. As a nation, economic indicators point towards positive growth, the housing market is rebounding, companies are poised to start expanding, which means jobs will be created.
Progress will continue to be slow and steady. While it may not be fast enough for us it will likely be better than where we were a couple of years ago.
As a community, we can move from the survival mode of the last several years to where we can identify new goals we want to pursue and develop a plan to work towards them.
In the coming year our community leaders will continue to face many challenges and will need to develop creative solutions to keep us moving forward.
However, as we have learned from the past, our community needs to work together as a team to bring progress and prosperity in 2012.
Have a safe and happy New Year.

I wish I had your optimism Chris, the economy is still at the mercy of the housing market, which is still a wreck, and a conflict with Iran will send Oil sky rocketing and inhibit economic growth.
Right here at home there seems to be no end in site to tax increases and spending on ridiculous projects, even though our economic base is falling out from under us and no one says anything about it, just business as usual. The realization is coming...

I want to stay as positive as I can too, Chris. I know you are expected to be a cheerleader for our local area. I want to be to.
But when someone or some entity does something bat $xit stupid, they need to be called on it.
I really hope things are as good as you are projecting on this site. But I don't think they are.

"Brownback said he is optimistic that the void left by Boeing Defense will be filled by the commercial airline market, which he said is on the upswing."
I suppose we could hang our hopes on the commercial market. But, the war in Iraq is over now and with that comes defense cuts. You can't just do one thing.
On the other hand, the auto industry is enjoying a resurgence of business.
Happy New Year!
