A Topeka group wants the public to attend an upcoming City Council meeting to protest the mayor's suggestion that the city adopt an ordinance regulating wearing caps and hoodies in businesses with video surveillance.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/w0TfVN ) that Bias Busters of Kansas is asking the public to attend Tuesday's Topeka City Council.
Mayor Bill Bunten says he's suggesting that the city allow a retail store to ask people who come in wearing a hooded sweat shirt or ball cap to take it off their head so surveillance camera can see them. Police Chief Ron Miller also recommended a similar measure to discourage robberies.
Sonny Scroggins, of Bias Busters, says he's urging residents to attend the meeting Tuesday as a way of voicing opposition to what Bunten is suggesting.

Hey Mayor Bunting and the other morons of todays' society that think you can legislate your way out of problems, it's not the clothes, guns, knives nor baseball bats, it's the low life criminals that cause crime and violence.

I think they know that neighbor.
Why not just shoot the ^&*%$*(^'s and then we won't have to **** with them again.
Better idea chop off there fingers on a hand, then if caught again there goes the other fingers. Pretty damn hard to pick stuff up with out any fingers. But then we would create more welfare recipients. Damn just can't win this game. Just shoot em!

It is quite frustrating as bubba points out.
Shoplifting and store robberies have taken place long before there were hoodies, and I doubt such an ordinance will prevent those crimes. The hooded menace will just adopt a different method of disguising themselves. At least we know they don't like the cameras. I'd like to think those cameras are a deterrent for most.
Last night's Topeka news featured downtown merchants who had amassed via cell phone whenever suspicious shoplifting activity took place. It seemed to be working for them, even to the point of barring one particular woman who had been habitually shoplifting in their stores.
I feel for merchants who must spend so much time and money preventing shoplifting. The costs are passed on to all of us, unfortunately.
This is a good place for me to warn all of you of the new scam taking place in our country. If someone calls you saying he is from Microsoft Windows and he will show you how to remove viruses from your computer, hang up. I received such a phone call yesterday. How did he get my phone number? Phishing, probably. Anyway, he was foreign, and his caller ID was all zeroes. Two red flags. I let him make his proposal then hung up. When I googled "windows phone call scam" this is what I found. Be vigilant, my friends.

Also, don't put personal information on Facebook. They phish that all the time.

It is for security of course. It is posted on many places here in town already. I deal with 4 banks in town and all have posted to remove hats, hoods, & sun glasses when entering. And Leave your personal protection (gun) outside. I feel safer knowing they are trying to protect us. I am not too worried about the lil shops down town, or shopping at " ChinaMart', As I am always protected. And yes I will get involved in a heart beat, Better them than me..

Most of this has to do with three recent shootings in Topeka, Two men wounded in one robbery, and a third man (a clerk) murdered in a convenience store. In each case video cameras show the shooter, But, due to head coverings, their faces can not be seen, This is about a little more than shoplifting.

For God sake. If we all wore the same thing like in the old sci fi movies it would all be just a perfect world. See it's simple.

Is it necessary to wear a hat or hood on your head inside a building ?? And are the lights so bright you need sun glasses ?? Still haven't figured out the wearing of ball caps backwards, leaves a funny mark on your forehead from the adj.strap. Guess it shows how damn stupid you are... And the 3 killings in Topeka were connected, 3 were arrested today..
