Ground Hog Dinner
The 17th Annual Ground Hog Dinner at First Congregational Church will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the basement Fellowship Hall. The public may enter on the west side of the church, located at Twelfth Avenue and State Street, and there is an elevator for those who need assistance.
The menu includes individual ham loaves, baked potatoes, green beans, rolls, salads, deserts and coffee or tea. Suggested donations are $6 for adults and $3 for children aged three through 10.
Proceeds go towards the church’s special projects.
LWC Valentine’s Banquet
Lamont Wesleyan Church will hold a Valentine’s banquet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at the church. There will be dinner, dessert and games, and live entertainment by “Musical Generations.”

‘Courageous’ tonight
Calvary Chapel Church, 1130 E. Ninth Ave., will be showing the move “Courageous” at 7 p.m. tonight. The public is welcome.
PNK statement
The Presbytery of Northern Kansas, which includes Emporia, has released the following statement:
“The Presbytery of Northern Kansas, of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), representing 67 churches in 33 counties, stands in opposition to the proposal put forth by Gov. Sam Brownback in his annual State of the State address on January 11, 2012 to eliminate the Earned Income Tax Credit for the citizens of the State of Kansas.” Edward J. First Christian Church clothes closet
The Clothes Closet at the First Christian Church, 12th and Market, is open from 3 to 6 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. In the month of February they offer “buy one article and get one article free.”
First Baptist special meeting
A special business meeting will be held following worship on Feb. 12 to vote on the proposal presented by the Vision Committee Jan. 22 regarding razing the sanctuary and remodeling H.I.S. Place.
