EHS presents ‘Into the Woods’
The Emporia High School Theater department is producing the popular Sondheim musical “Into the Woods.” Showtimes are 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 and 1 and 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 11. Tickets are $5 per person and sold at the door. For more information, call 341-2365.
CORBIAN and Lightwire Theater Saturday
A pair of fables acted by a unique and extraordinary puppet troupe, CORBIAN and Lightwire Theater, will be performed at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Granada Theater. This program is part of a series sponsored by the Emporia Arts Council.
The Ugly Duckling’s adventures lead him on a search for others who will love him for who he is. The famous story of the race between the Tortoise and the Hare is best known today for teaching the moral that “slow and steady wins the race.”
Tickets are available at the EAC, the Granada Coffee Co., Sweet Granada and Emporia Fitness. Adults are $15, youth $10.
TSO Valentine’s Day event
The Topeka Symphony Orchestra, which many area musicians play in, will hold a special concert Feb. 11 to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Works include Mozart’s Sym. No. 35, Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, and guest artist Nicholas Ciraldo performing Harvey’s Concerto Antico for Guitar and orchestra.
There is a Symphony Supper beforehand at 5:30 at the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center, across from White Concert Hall on the campus of Washburn University. A pre-concert talk will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Slimon exhibit continues
Works by abstract painter Richard Slimon remain on display at the Emporia Arts Council, 815 Commercial St. The EAC is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Smoky Hill Arts Competition
The Hays Arts Council, Hays, Kansas has announced the 43rd Annual Smoky Hill Art Competition & Exhibition. The competition is open to any artist currently living in Kansas.
All two and three-dimensional works are eligible. Entries are due to the Hays Arts Council by March 9. A complete competition prospectus can be found and downloaded online at www.haysartscouncil.org
The juror this year will be Louis Copt, artist, educator, arts advocate and juror whose own awarding-winning work is in museum, corporate and private collections worldwide. He taught at the University of Kansas, served as a member of the Kansas Arts Commission, and Kansas City Artists Coalition.

Eppink Reception
A reception for the latest Emporia State University art exhibit, “Passion Fruit,” will be held in the Bruder Theater lobby, King Hall, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Some of the participating artists will talk briefly about the programs that helped support the creation of the work in the exhibit during an informal Gallery Talk at 6 p.m.
This exhibition highlights artworks designed by ESU Art faculty that were created during an artist residency, an artist fellowship, a sabbatical or workshop.
