Wednesday, February 1, 2012
The 500 tickets allotted for Lyon County residents at the Emporia Chamber of Commerce today have sold out.
Lyon County resdients had the opportunity to reserve tickets for the seventh annual Symphony in the Flint Hills event before tickets go on sale to the public March 10. Historically, event tickets sell out in record time – last year all 5,000 general admission tickets were gone in less than 40 minutes.
Symphony in the Flint Hills was guaranteeing 500 tickets for Lyon County for their June 9 event. Beginning Wednesday, residents of Lyon County could go to the Emporia Visitors Bureau (719 Commercial St.) in person between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. to sign up for tickets. Identification was be required and no reservations were be taken over the phone. Each person could reserve a maximum of four tickets per household.
Those who have reserved tickets will need to make arrangements to pay for their tickets through the Kansas City Symphony box office at (816) 471-0400. Tickets are $75 per person. In order to keep their tickets, payment will need to be made before March 10.
“As the host county of the seventh annual event, we are delighted to offer the residents of Lyon County a chance to reserve tickets before the general public ticket sales,” said Emily Hunter, executive director of Symphony in the Flint Hills. “Lyon County has been very generous to Symphony in the Flint Hills – we have a magnificent pasture in Bushong for the backdrop of the event and Emporia has taken our mission to ‘heighten appreciation and knowledge of the Flint Hills’ to heart. It’s our privilege to make these tickets available to the people in Lyon County.”
This year’s outdoor festival will take place on the privately owned Leets Pasture in northwest Lyon County – the ranchland is located directly west of Bushong.
Sam Brownback, the Governor of Kansas, will serve as the event’s honorary chair and the Kansas City Symphony will return to perform the sunset concert. Capitol Federal is the major presenting sponsor for the acclaimed event. To learn more, visit www.symphonyintheflinthills.org.
