Spangles coming

It’s official: Spangles is coming to Emporia.
After public speculation and talk among city officials, Emporia’s newest restaurant will soon be going up at the location of the former Coburn’s at 2708 W. 18th Ave., although a detailed timeline has not yet been established, according to Melissa Hennen, director of marketing for the fast food corporation based in Wichita.
“We are hoping and thinking January for an opening,” Hennen said. “But it depends on when we start building and if there’s any issues with the ground, so it depends on a lot of things.”
The company has been looking at Emporia for a location for some time, but Hennen said it came down to an issue of opportunity.
“The main thing has been finding a location that works for us,” she said.
That opportunity arose after Coburn’s, a long-time locally-owned restaurant, closed its doors in January after 13 years in business. The structure that occupied the site was torn down over the weekend.
Further details of Spangles’ move to Emporia will be released in the coming weeks, Hennen said.

Not sure another fast food joint would have been my first choice, but I am glad to see another empty spot filled. And I do like Spangles' breakfast sandwiches!

Yes, another fast food place is better than an empty hole...I've eaten at Spangles a few times in Wichita and Topeka, I was impressed that---considering it is indeed "fast food" after all---they at least have some unique menu items, flatbread sandwiches, etc.

They aren't bad, but they are a pretty penny for fast food. Not sure Emporia will support it long term.

Spangles is good, but it won't be Emporians that support it. Rumor has it we are losing another 50 job business, wonder which one this time. And the beat goes on. I just wonder when Longbine road from Hwy 50 north a mile will need resurfacing from all the traffic to the new businesses out there.

I went to pick up my Pyramid Pizza last night for the Shiloh House fundraiser. The guy at the counter told me they will be moving in with Beer 30 and becoming more of an Italian place.
I'm guessing this is what Steve C. was hinting about on another thread. If it is, they are telling the public now.

I think there will still be the pizza place, just like it is now. but they will be adding other items to the menu and moving to the larger location.
