Home Cafe to open in former S & S Cafe building

Thursday, September 29, 2011

Bud Parks and Shelley Watts enjoyed the first few months away from running a restaurant, but then the urge to get back to work returned.

Parks and Watts, who operated the Flying J restaurant for 10 years, had been looking for a place to open a new restaurant. They found what they were searching for in the former S & S Cafe, 2604 W. U.S. Highway 50.

The duo rented the building and are aiming to open Home Cafe on Oct. 11. Home Cafe will serve breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

“We were looking for a building and we really like this location,” Watts said.

Watts describes the food as fresh, homestyle cuisine. She said they will order products from local vendors and nothing frozen will be used.

“There will be home cooked meals and daily lunch specials,” Watts said. “It will be quick and easy meals. If you get an hour for lunch, you can eat here and still have time to run around and get errands done.”

Good luck to them. The S&S was sorely missed by the early morning breakfast crowd out catching a good meal before starting the day.

On another note, I wonder why the Gazette isn't reporting anyting about the Tularemia outbreak in Lyon County? KSNT reported it tonight, but it was the worst reported story I have ever seen. Not much information and poorly delivered. ???

that's disappointing they're not staying open all day let alone 24hrs. i always go eat breakfast in the evening or late at night so i guess they wont' get very much of my business :(

Maybe they are waiting to see what business is going to be like before they expand their hours. Sounds like a smart plan to me, especially the way new businesses don't last long around here anymore. Soooo.... if you want to see expanded hours......... they need your business!

Who wants to go to an all night cafe and put up with the local drunks.

I can see there point on there choice of hours, especially in a small cafe.

I wish them luck.

At the end Country Kitchen had ARMED GUARDS to stop the fights and run outs by the drunk college students. But it did help Fred build his business up. No they need to start slow.

Country Kitchen, many a memory made there.

Early one morning, friends and I were a little rowdy and were told to settle down by the manager. I liked the way she handled us and offered her a job. She ended up being one of my best employees, ever

Wish the owners much luck, and will try them out.
