For the last two months, Kansas State Historical Society representatives and Governor Brownback have been traveling around the state unveiling the names of 25 most notable Kansans.
The series has been an interesting way to engage Kansans young and old about our history.
The series concluded last Thursday at the Kansas State Fair when Governor Brownback unveiled the last five notable Kansans.
Emporia’s own William Allen White was selected as the second most notable Kansan in Kansas history, behind President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
With all the amazing people in Kansas history we were surprised that White placed second on the list, especially when names like Chrysler, Cessna, Menninger, Naismith and others seem to have more name recognition.
It has been decades since William Allen White walked the streets of Emporia and influenced our nation. However, his story is a testament to how a person with a typewriter could shape American and Kansas politics and rise to national prominence with editorials from a little desk at 517 Merchant in downtown Emporia.
As a community we can become numb to, or forget about, the impact of our predecessors. But it is recognitions such as this that prompt us to remember their impact, appreciate our history and inspire us to greater good today.
This recognition is nice for William Allen White. But Emporia is the real beneficiary because with recognition comes publicity and statewide interest, drawing visitors to our town who want to enjoy the many sites and attractions we have here. And that is what William Allen White would have wanted most.

OK Chris, now is the time for the Emporia Gazette to take a leadership role in the future for Emporia....take a stand...for prosperity..for quality of life ...for a future much the same as WAW did.

William Allen White was Chairman of the League of Nations and a long time Trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation. He had a friend from Emporia named Edman Lyman Kellogg who also served as a long time trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation. Mr. Kellogg was an expert in Eugenics.

Edman lyman Kellogg was in with the high command of the German military and the intellectuals. In 1920, he wrote a book called Headquarter Nights warning America that Germany was taking Eugenics to the max and Thedore Roosevelt IV wrote the introduction. Herbert Hoover was one of his students and Mr. Kellogg wrote a book called, Herbert Hoover The Man and His Works. Mr.Kellogg's father was the first President of the Emporia Normal School now called Emporia State University.

I hope someday that someone would be able to research the minutes of the Rockefeller Foundation and discover the impact that William Allen White and Edman Lyman Kellogg had on world events. If a lost journal was found or is being held back for a certain period of time--this would be probably be an account of the planned New World Order. Maybe the blueprint and a couple of good ole boy's from Emporia was in on it.
