Last week Reading residents met with officials of the United States Postal Service to learn more about the fate of their post office.
There has been much publicity about the dismal financial situation of the United States Postal Service and how they are conducting studies around the country to determine which post offices can be closed in an effort to save money.
The Reading post office was not originally on the list but after a tornado on May 21 that leveled the post office it was put on the list.
More than 100 Reading residents turned out for the meeting and voiced strong support for their post office.
Unfortunately, it will likely take more than vocal support but also dollar support to keep a post office open. And if residents want to show their support now is time to send as much mail as they can through their local post office.
Those cents may prove to post office officials that it may make sense to keep their post office open.
