Madison gets big win over Pleasanton

Saturday, September 10, 2011

For the second straight week, the Madison Bulldogs finished their game early, beating Pleasanton 60-0 in the first half. Kole Schankie got the Bulldogs off to a good start by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown and also running in the two-point conversion.

“We did a nice job blocking (the return),” said assistant coach Tracy Griffin. “We knew we had an oppoturnity to run one back. It was nice to see the success from practice translate on the field.”

Schankie would go on to score two more touchdowns for Madison. Tanner Bybee scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and Collin Kile threw for two touchdowns as Madison outgained Pleasanton 314-166 in total yards. The Bulldogs were able to force three fumbles and recovered one. Despite giving up almost 150 yards on the ground, the Bulldogs held Pleasanton to just 20 passing yards. Madison (2-0) will host Hartford on Sept. 16.

Caney Valley 35, Olpe 13

Although the Eagles were down just nine at the half, Olpe was unable to register a comeback as it fell to Caney Valley in the second game of the season. Olpe (1-1) struggled offensively, only gaining 133 total yards to Caney Valley’s 276.

“It was a little frustrating,” said head coach Chris Schmidt. “We were in it. I kind of got away from what we probably should’ve been doing. I got away from the run a little to early. Even when we passed the ball, Jake (quarterback Jake Brinkman) was running a lot.”

Caney Valley used the third quarter to open up a 19-point run to extend its lead to 28 points. Olpe would respond in the final minutes on a 59-yard pass from Brinkman to Isaac Hall. The game was characterized by big plays as Caney Valley scored three touchdowns from over 50 yards out.
